Turkey VI - Smyrna and Pergamum
Continuing our tour of the seven churches of Revelation, we visited Smyrna which is modern day Izmir. Much of the ruins here lie under the modern city as well, but the ancient marketplace dating to Alexander the Great's time is fascinating. Moving north from Smyrna we visited Pergamum which was an amazing favorite. The ancient acropolis is a stunning setting on top of a mountain visited nowadays by cable car, as well as the Asklepion (sort of a health resort) below.
