White Mountain Sunset
After hiking in Twenty Lakes Basin I drove into the White Mountains near Bishop, CA to a favorite viewpoint I visited in 2021. This time I was blessed with an absolutely surreal sunset experience. This viewpoint is 10,000ft up in the White Mountains, and clouds were hanging over them and the Bishop valley, but ended east of the Sierras. The sun came below the clouds, throwing light across the hills and into the distance, lighting everything up while above were still dark clouds trying to rain. It's impossible to describe, and even the photos can't come close to doing it justice. The large pano at the end of this gallery (created by combining 24 individual exposures) comes the closest to capturing the experience. I was amazed to discover while processing it that there was a faint rainbow just left of the middle which I had not seen in person!
