After our time in Norway, we drove east into Sweden for three nights in Abisko. This location is supposedly a "blue hole" which often has clear skies even when the surrounding areas are cloudy. However, we weren't terribly impressed. Due to road conditions, it took us around 10 hours to make what should have been a five hour drive, and we only had about 15 minutes of good clear aurora viewing the whole time. Abisko National Park would probably be beautiful in summer, but it just can't compare to Lofoten's majesty. Thankfully the one good aurora show we had was absolutely beyond stunning...one of the best I've ever seen in my life. However, if planning the trip again I think I would have just stayed the last few days in Lofoten.
