Ireland V - Sligo Area
After the amazing sunset experience at the Slieve League Cliffs, I spent the night at a cozy B&B less than two miles away -- it was the least expensive night's stay of the trip and one of my favorite properties as well! The next morning I backtracked to the Silver Strand beach which I'd run out of time for the previous day, then began driving south toward Castlebar. Along the way I spent some time hiking near Benbulbin and visited picturesque Glencar Lough. Near Sligo I explored the ancient tombs of Carrowmore, and hiked to Queen Maeve's megalithic tomb on top of Knocknarea Mountain, with spectacular 360 degree views of the whole area. Just before sunset I flew my drone over Moyne Abbey, an impressive 15th century ruin which is not developed as a tourist site, so rather difficult to reach by ground. Places like this were one reason I bought the drone for this trip, and was so grateful I did!
