Greece XI - Ancient Dion
By this point in the trip, my mom and I were joking that we were completely ruined... having toured so many ancient ruins that they all were starting to blur together! I originally had listed three sites to visit on our next to last day in Greece, but due to a mechanical problem with our rental car we were delayed in leaving Meteora. Once we finally got on the road, we decided to pick just one of the three sites, skipping the other two. We selected ancient Dion, not really knowing much about it. This ended up being a real surprise, and while not Biblically significant, one of the most amazing and beautiful archaeological sites we visited in Greece. This city dates to the time of Philip, father of Alexander the Great and features incredible temples, Roman roads, mosaics, and Roman baths, set just below the massive peaks of Mt. Olympus.
