Turkey VII - Assos and Troy
On our last day in Turkey we visited the small, charming village of Assos situated on a hill above the beautiful Aegean Sea overlooking the Greek island of Lesvos. This is another location Paul visited along his journeys. The main ruin remaining today is the stunning 6th century BC Temple of Athena, one of the most striking locations we visited in Turkey. Continuing north we visited Alexandrian Troas, a port city Paul passed through multiple times during his journeys. Our last stop was the remarkable ruins of Troy, dating possibly as far back as 3,000BC.
