New Zealand II: Glenorchy
After visiting Mt Cook, the weather my second day in New Zealand was fantastic almost everywhere. I had planned to drive over Haast Pass to the west coast (which is notoriously hard to catch in good weather)... but unfortunately a landslide closed the highway. The only alternate route would have taken nine hours to drive, so I abandoned that plan and instead drove a short distance south to Queenstown. A small front the night before had dropped some fresh snow in the hills, and the early morning light was absolutely gorgeous coming over the Crown Range. I spent the day an hour past Queenstown up near Glenorchy, among some of the most gorgeous scenery in the Southern Alps.
